Happy Friday! The movies finally have something worth seeing, so hubs and I are currently sitting at the theater waiting for Gone Girl to begin. Loved the book and love David Fincher even more so I am psyched!
Btw my dress for the wedding made it today!!! Thank goodness, since it is tomorrow!! Ha!!
Skirt - Gap, Top - Proenza Schouler for Target & Neiman Marcus, Leggings - Target, Boots - Clarks, Bag - 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target, Jacket - hubby hand me down
Part 2 of my wedding fashion flashback!
Pony Wedding #4 was Kate and Shawn who were married on a gorgeous farm in upstate New York outside of Albany. She had a beautiful romantic gown. I stepped out of my comfort zone and wore a printed Calvin Klein dress in a tulip shape. I have since worn that dress performing with the band - it definitely has a rock and roll vibe when styled right.
Pony Wedding #5 was a winter affair with Jenni and Brandon at the stunning Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I wore a red Adrianna Papell lace dress in honor of the red headed bride. Jenny and I were lace dress twinsies that night! I did dramatic smokey eyes, which looked really great until a few sweaty rounds on the dance floor turned me into a raccoon. This also marks the first wedding where I unapologetically wore flats! I have held the trend ever since.
Pony Wedding #6 was Sarah & Greg at Lake George in New York. I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid!! I remember she asked me during Jenni’s b-rette party and we had a hilarious drunk, “I love you man,” type exchange. The details are very fuzzy. She had a very loose dress policy - cocktail length, style of our choosing, in grey. Shoes could be burnt orange, amethyst or aqua blue. I opted for orange flats and I was by far the comfiest of the bridesmaids walking on the lawn for pics and the ceremony.
Of course I ordered my dress online super early and it was tight. Instead of returning it, I vowed to lose weight. Unfortunately I did not lose enough and two weeks from the wedding I needed to find another grey dress. Let me tell you, finding a grey dress in the summer is impossible. I ended up purchasing an $18 number from Forever 21 plus in a mint green. My bestie Beana and I then dyed the dress grey! Dying the dress was actually my hubby’s idea. He can, at times, be brilliant. The mint green peeped through only along the zipper and it actually looked cute!
Pony Wedding #7 occurred during my year of no shopping. We celebrated the nuptials of Marisa and Sylvester in Edinburgh Scotland. I loved that all the ponies managed to trek across the pond for the wedding. Marisa looked stunning and her flowers were so pretty. She had me hold her bouquet for a quick moment and Evie took a quick pic, haha.
I traded in my old navy bucks to get this dress from the Gap. So I was able to wear something new, which made me very happy. I am not a fan of rewearing dresses at weddings, especially when it is the same circle of friends seeing all of your dresses! Unfortunately I have not been able to wear this again, as during the raucous dancing with the Scots and Americans, a lot of whiskey was spilled…on my dress…both the front and back. I can’t manage to get the stains out - but it was worth it!
Well that is that! I had so much fun at all of these weddings. They all had their stand out moments and features. PW #3 had the best DJ - awesome sing along moments, PW #4 had the best ceremony - totes laughed and cried, PW #5 had the best food - still dream of that duck, PW #6 had the best after wedding party - bonfire with s’mores, and PW #7 had the best location and accents - I mean, Edinburgh. C’mon. Personally I feel PW #1 had the best cake, but I might be biased. But all of these weddings definitely had the best people. My friends rock.
You know why am I excited that it is October 1st? Yes, I love the fall, pumpkins, horror flicks and Halloween candy, but I am really excited because a new month equals a fresh clothing budget to spend!
Remember, since I started my budgeting mid-September I only had $50 to spend. Man oh man, $50 does not get you very far. My wish list is getting bigger and bigger but my funds just cannot accommodate it all. I managed to get 11 pairs of budget underwear, as well as a new dress and belt for my bro’s wedding on Saturday from Forever 21 online. I am a little nervous because the order has not arrived yet and the tracking says it won’t show up until Friday. That is cutting it PRETTY close. I better devise a back-up JIC.
So overall in September I was…..UNDERBUDGET! I managed to end the month with $16.72 in the slush fund. Thank the lord for Forever 21’s prices!
So what is on the menu for October? Although I am craving new leggings and jeans, what I am desperate for is a new pair of brown boots. My current pair look really rough. They were cheap to begin with and I have worn them at least two years past their shelf life. I found the brown boots I want - they are similar to my favorite black Clark’s (same heel and length) but just different enough to make them fun:-) Best part, they are $115 on Amazon. So my slush fund plus my $100 budget just gives me enough to afford my new lovelies. Unfortunately that means I can’t buy any more clothing or accessories for the rest of the month, but totally worth it!
Adding them to my cart now:-)
On Saturday my big brother Doug will be getting married to the love of his life. We cannot wait for Kristianne to be a part of the family:-) I adore weddings - they are the perfect excuse to get dolled up, eat yummy catered food and bust some moves on the dance floor. And of course seeing two people in love pledge to spend their lives together and get all teary eyed gives me major feels. I love love. In honor of my bro’s upcoming nuptials I am taking a stroll down fashion memory lane of wedding’s past!
I love weddings so much that I actually had two of my own! To the same hubby, mind you. Due to immigration timing issues the hubby and I had a small civil ceremony in Vermont before our big family wedding. When I say small, I mean small. It was me, the hubs, his best man, my sisters, mom and brother (and my little baby nephew.) I wore a lilac Calvin Klein shift dress and some cute pointy toes heels with an ankle strap. It was chillier than I planned so my sister lent me her powder pink Gap blazer, which actually looked so adorable, I wish I had planned it!
Although I never in a million years would have bet on it, I was the first of my college girls (the Ponies) to take the plunge. They were all awesome enough to come to my wedding in Litchfield, CT. As you will see in all of these pics - my friends are crazy stylish and beautiful. They are a constant source of fashion inspiration for me and I feel that they are all getting even better with age. My wedding dress was a David’s Bridal a-line number that made me look so skinny! I know some women get their dress preserved but I totally wrecked mine from dancing up a storm. I kept the sash, my blusher veil and the under garments but I ended up tossing the dress. I still have my lilac Calvin Klein though;-)
The next pic is from my skinny long haired days. I was attending my former brother in law’s sister’s wedding. I wore this Anne Klein black wrap dress that I totally killed in college. It was my official go-to special occasion dress. Doesn’t my friend Kerry look gorgeous? She has this wonderful bohemian chic style that is just so her.
On to my favorite wedding look I have ever rocked. We attended the nuptials of friends, Lilia and Julio, in Victoria Texas. Another Anne Klein dress (her cuts flatter my figure!) but this time in a beautiful shade of green. I found fun coral patent pumps and a matching handbag at Payless. The shoes were the most uncomfortable things I ever wore - totally lost feeling in my toes for days from those suckers. But they looked so cute!!! I only wore that dress on that occasion which is a shame. I need to lose a few pounds to fit into it again:-(
Finally the deluge of Pony weddings began! I unfortunately missed Pony Wedding #2 (Jenny & Josh’s) because we were in Spain visiting the hubby’s family. Next up was Pony Wedding #3 - Lauren and Dan, who got married in Brooklyn. I loved her cocktail length wedding dress - so chic and so Lauren! I wore an Ann Taylor LOFT dress with my long LOFT pearls. I ended up re-wearing that same dress to a casual wedding of my friends Chrissy and Chris. Chris is my brother Dylan’s future brother-in-law, so we sang a few songs during the reception, which was really lovely and fun.
The rest of the Pony weddings and more pics of wedding fashions past tomorrow! To be continued:-)
New Music Tuesday 9.30.14, a playlist by thomyorkesbadeye on Spotify
Hi all! Hope you had a nice week since my last NMT post. So last week’s selection of new music was hit and miss (hit Alt-J, miss Julian Casablancas & the Voidz). This week’s playlist is a bit shorter, has some more female-centric pop tunes and is stuffed with artists I have never listened to before. I can already tell you my fast favorite is the Preatures. Very nice, catchy indie rock.
Hope you find something you like!
A little over a year ago I made the conscience decision to stop dying my hair. I had many reasons, one of them being my quest to stop purchasing unnecessary beauty products for a year. Boy did my hair get grey!
Luckily it was pretty well blended and almost looked like highlights. If you notice from my varied haircuts, I tend to get bored with my look. One whole year with the same color has finally worn on me. I also was feeling very old lately. Looking in the mirror and seeing a sea of grey hairs was not helping in that regard.
So I decided to go back to putting stinky dye on my head for 40 minutes. I opted for a dark brown ash color. It turned out very dark but I am enjoying the change!!
It’s been ages since I posted an outfit pic! Hope you didn’t miss me too much;-) I’m truly enjoying this transition into fall. Boots baby!!!!!
P.s. I am psyched for Scandal tonight.
Dress - Target, Cardi - Loft, leggings - American Apparel, Boots - Clarks Necklace - No clue! Bag - 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target
New Music Tuesday 9.23.14, a playlist by thomyorkesbadeye on Spotify
Here are the new(ish) albums I’ve assembled to listen to at work today - clocking in at almost 8 hours. So far I’m already loving the alt-J! Left Hand Free has been placed on my best tracks of 2014 playlist.
Some of these albums are by artists I already know and love (Perfume Genius, The Drums, the aforementioned alt-J, LIGHTS) and some are totally new to me (Tweedy, Shintara Sakamoto, Los Angeles Police Department).
I’m going to try to make this a semi-regular Tuesday post. I hope you listen along with me!
I know I’ve been pretty MIA since my big bloggerversary spread, but after doing a daily post for 365 days straight I needed a break! Have no fear. I’ll be back to posting regularly, espesh since Fall TV has officially begun. You know I need to share my opinions on the new, the old and the soon to be cancelled. Watching Sleepy Hollow as we speak, biding my time until my long time love James Spader returns on the Blacklist tonight. And Nashville’s back this week too, y’all! Maybe this was a bad time to start my annual Buffy rewatch….
In honor of my good friend who just moved to Edinburgh to marry a great Scot, I present to you a playlist filled with other great Scots! I will keep updating and would love for other users to send me cool Scottish tunes to add to the list. Thanks fellow Playlisters!
In honor of today’s independence vote, here is my playlist filled with Scottish artists that I released in December of 2013. Whether they vote to stay or vote to go, Scots are awesome in my book.
