I am a shopping addict. Not jokingly, but for realz. It runs in my family and I am no exception. I amassed a very large amount of credit card debt in college, which I thankfully was able to work my way out of. I married a frugal man - which has helped slow my roll to a point. But in all honesty I still have a problem. I rationalize purchases that I do not need (“but it’s such a good deal” “it’s limited edition!” “I need it to wear with my xyz”) and have a closet filled with items worn once or twice, if that.
It is not just clothes - it is also jewelry, shoes, bags, scarves, makeup & beauty products, etc. Before I got into fashion and beauty it was CDs & DVDs (online streaming services have really saved me in that regard.) My apartment it bursting at the seams with STUFF, the credit card bills are getting tougher and tougher to pay off, and my shopping habits are keeping us from saving for the future, which is terrible. So I have decided to take a year long sabbatical from shopping. I am pledging not to buy any clothes, shoes, bags, undergarments, jewelry, scarves, hats, gloves, etc. for one whole year. I already went crazy buying 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target today, so it has to start tomorrow. That shopping spree is what made me decide to do this - one last hurrah!
I am also going to stop buying beauty products until I am ABSOLUTELY out of them. I honestly think I can make it at least half a year without buying anything.
One bit of disclosure - I have quite a few subscription boxes that I am not yet ready to give up but I have given myself some rules: no new subscriptions, no special edition boxes, and no allure beauty boxes (no matter how good the deal is). My current subscriptions are Popsugar Must Have, Juniper (my TOM), Love With Food, Ipsy, Graze and Glossybox. My Glossybox expires in 5 months and I won’t renew. Eventually I will wean myself off of the rest.
I will be documenting my (sure to be challenging) year with pics of my outfits (I’m going to have to get creative). I’ll also talk about the music I’m listening to, tv shows I’m watching, and movies I dig - because I’m also addicted to entertainment;-) ttyl
